No matter how hard you try, regardless of how much you care about them, your carpets inevitably lose their colour and freshness. It is a truth many homeowners wish to neglect – that their carpets have a lifespan, and once it is over, they need to refit them.
How hard could that be? Well, a bit harder than you may imagine. And we will give you the top three reasons why you don’t want to try it alone.
It takes a lot of time
Carpet refitting usually includes the following steps:
- The removal of all furniture from the room (if possible)
- The removal of the old carpet
- Floor cleaning – often underestimated by owners, who are shocked when they see the amount of dust under their carpet.
- New carpet fitting
- Putting all furniture back in its place.
Each of these steps is time-consuming, especially point #3 – you may waste up to an hour sweeping and dusting before you put the room in decent condition. Without proper training and experience, the carpet refitting of a single living room may take more than 4-5 hours!
It is a back-breaking work
If you haven’t hit the gym in a while and are out of shape, we strongly advise you to delegate the job to a professional. Put your macho ego aside before you end up in a hospital with herniated disks or worse!
You probably do not have the proper equipment
You can deal with all the points we mentioned above except for two – the removal of the old carpet and the fitting of the new one. If the former were done professionally, you would need special tools to remove the nails – the same logic applies to the new fitting. Either way, quit improvising and let the professionals do their job!
